Let’s talk about…the 7 deadly sins of love. Part 1:Wrath

The Seven deadly sins according to the bible are wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy & gluttony. In every apsect of life we are capable of committing these sins, especially when it comes to love! This week we will be exploring the sin ‘wrath’. The mere sound of the word is scary isn’t it? You hear the word wrath and you see pitchforks, flames and possessed eyes! And most likely picturing a female, admit it!

They say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned and many a man has been on the receiving end of a woman’s wrath! We’ve all heard the stories of the women who put up posters of cheating husbands all over the neighbourhood, cut up all their clothes, take a set of golf clubs to their car etc…. Crimes of passion rank high on the list of motives to murder a significant other and in US Civil Courts was even commonly referred to as temporary insanity in the 1940′s and 50′s!
As much as I’m sure these women all felt a great sense of relief after they had committed these acts it has to be said they lost a huge chunk of their dignity and in the case of murder their freedom! You’d be much better off unleashing that tension on a punch bag, or a toy boy you meet on holidays who doesn’t speak a word of English! Then when you’re calm enough you can deal with disposing of your man without losing the plot, thus keeping your dignity, and not being known for a 10 mile radius as a crazy lady, which would render you un-dateable for life!
Take for example, Lorena Bobbit. Do you think she ever got asked on a date after the ‘incident’ with her husband? Maybe to dinner in McDonalds where there was no cutlery and definitely no overnight stays! Lorena Bobbit became famous in 1993 when she cut off almost half her husband’s penis while he slept. She then proceeded to drive down the road with it and throw it out the car window into a field! The dismembered member was later reattached after it was located in a search party. On the back of his new found ‘fame’ John Wayne Bobbit went on to form a band called ’The Severed Parts’ and starred in a couple of ironically titled adult films ‘John Bobbit uncut’ and ‘Frankenpenis’. Lorena pleaded temporary insanity as a result of her husband’s treatment towards her.
And ever wondered where the term bunny boiler came from? Well look no further than the 1987 hit movie Fatal Attraction which sees a psychotic woman filled with rage after the married man she had a weekend affair with gives her the cold shoulder. She kills the family’s pet rabbit and puts it on the stove to boil, brings stalking to a whole new level and attempts to kill her lover and his wife before they kill her in self-defense!
Do you think any of these women woke up one day and planned their avengeful campaigns in advance or was it spur of the moment passionate rage that drove them? Do you ever sometimes take a step back from a situation you yourself are in and worry that you’re on a slippery slope to psycho-ville after one too may drunk texts or a little too much facebook stalking?! A little of this is ok because the truth is there are so many crazy women out there that they take the focus off the little league players! When you hear stories of what other women have done you feel surprisingly normal! I recently heard about someone who broke into her casual lover’s place in the middle of the night because she suspected he was seeing someone else…as it turned out he wasn’t, but that was the end of them when she had to explain what she was doing and how she got in!
So if you yourself are a man or a woman feeling scorned think about the long term ramifications of your actions before you do anything! You might feel good for five minutes after wreaking your revenge upon the offending party but you will have to live with the crazy stigma for life!
Tune in next week for another deadly sin!
