Let’s Talk about…The 7 deadly sins of Love, Part 6 – Envy!

Envy is the desire to have a quality, possession, or other attribute belonging to someone else.
A classic example of envy and one which has recently re-vamped and modernised for our cinema screens is the tale of Snow White. Her stepmother was so envious of her youth and beauty that she set out to kill “the fairest of them all” so that she could once again reign supreme! Not quite succeeding to kill her stepdaughter she did however succeed in feeding her a poisoned apple that sent the beauty into a deep slumber. Enter prince charming, a smack on the lips and hey presto – Snow White is alive and well. There was no happy ending for her stepmother though who in the original tale was forced to wear a pair of heated iron shoes and dance until she dropped dead!
It’s natural to look at another person and admire different aspects of their appearance and think to yourself how you wish you had their legs/teeth/eyes/hair etc…but if you become too envious of another it can be quite detrimental to your own self-worth!
You can spend so much time obsessing over what others possess that you’ll completely lose sight of any of your own virtues! If you’re constantly blaming your failure to bag a husband or the fact that you don’t have the trophy-wife appearance of a WAG or you haven’t got the money for fancy clothes then you’re going to radiate negativity and hostility and this will be what is acting as a barrier to any potential mates, and not the fact that you don’t get mistaken for Georgia Salpa on a night out!
Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder and appearances aren’t everything but it doesn’t hurt to make the best of what you’ve got either! Let’s be honest you’re not going to turn any heads in an old trackie with your hair in a messy ponytail are you? Men like a woman who takes care of herself! And with so many affordable beauty buys these days there’s something to suit everyone’s budget! Penneys has become a one-stop shop for quality clothes, shoes, accessories and beauty products on a shoe string budget and is a firm favourite of mine! Learn what clothes flatter your shape and steer clear of the ones that don’t! Accentuate your best features by highlighting that area with bold shades of make up whether it be a vibrant lipstick or funky eyeshadows.
If you look good, you’ll feel good and subsequently feel confident. This is much more welcoming than the bitter and resentful face of envy!
Tune in next week for the final deadly sin!
